9am briefing: Essential Edinburgh boss stands down

THE head of a company set up to improve Edinburgh's city centre has revealed she is to stand down amid criticism of its performance.

Jane Wood said she will resign from her post as chair of Essential Edinburgh next week to pursue other business interests.

The organisation has been criticised for failing to provide any proper return in exchange for the levies paid by businesses within the area between Princes Street and George street.
