Keir Starmer announces Labour would create 'Great British Energy’ body to cut bills and make UK clean energy superpower

Sir Keir Starmer has announced Labour would create a ‘Great British Energy’ body with the bold aim to slash bills, as he made a concerted pitch around his ambition to become the country’s next prime minister.

In a speech designed to present himself as a prime minister-in-waiting, the Labour leader promised a new, publicly-owned clean company that would harness sun, wind and wave power to deliver energy independence for the UK.

Making a landmark speech at Labour conference in Liverpool on Tuesday, Sir Keir vowed to build a Britain where people were “thriving”, not just “surviving”.
